Dear Powerful Women of the World,

Your life now has a sound track! As we prepare for this year’s Women Interactive Creative Technology Festival we are constantly looking for creative and innovative ways to educate, interact and inspire our attendees and supporters. Sounds of Women’s History Powered by Jooksi and Women Interactive is the first of many creative projects to be powered by Women Interactive and shared with you this year. We first released this collection of timeless anthems during Women’s History Month but realized this is a great soundtrack to usher in the warm weather months too! All the songs have been hand selected by Jooksi and Women Interactive to keep your creative juices flowing as you conquer the world one great idea at a time.

Sabrina Harvey, Founding Curator Women Interactive
One of my favorite songs on the playlist is Golden by Jill Scott. Golden is the perfect way to start your day. Part feel good song, part mantra there’s no way you can hear Jill’s melodic voice and not feel that your day is Golden.

Ashia Sims, Founding Curator of Women Interactive
One of my favorite songs on the playlist is You Learn by Alanis Morrisette. When I first heard this song, I was a teenager. The whole Jagged Little Pill album spoke directly to my rebellious teenage spirit. But now that I’ve grown up into an equally as rebellious adult, I like to learn from my experiences; even the little ones. In the song Alanis encourages us to do those things that we may be too embarrassed or uncomfortable doing and I love that. My current life mantra is “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” and I spend a lot of time outside of my comfort zone. When I first heard the song, it inspired me to enjoy all of life’s experiences, even the uncomfortable ones. Now that the things I used to find uncomfortable aren’t so much anymore, it’s inspiring me to actively step outside of my comfort zone so I can continue to learn and grow.

Fredara Hadley, Founder of Jooksi
I chose “Express Yourself” by Madonna. “Don’t go for second best baby, put your love to the test.” Express Yourself may be about romantic love, but the title and the feel of the song always make me thing of just speaking *my* truth, not settling, and making sure my voice is heard. It’s a bold way to live and it’s how I aspire to be.

Tenille Johnson, Content Manager of Jooksi
I don’t know one man that isn’t tired of women screaming this song in the clubs, car or house. So what does that mean? Scream it a little bit LOUDER! “We Run The World (Girls)” by Beyonce is without a doubt the ultimate female empowerment song for the women of today’s society. This song encompasses all roles and duties that women have taken on for years and is a great message for young girls that they can have everything that want in life and more. So, the next time you step inside an important board room meeting, getting ready for an interview, or embarking on a new journey just repeat “Girls, we run this Mutha! Just make sure not to rapidly shake your head like Bey did in the video ….. You may get whiplash.

With selections from Jill Scott, Katy Perry, Kelis, Teena Marie, Beyonce, Ani DiFranco and more, the musical selection on the Sounds of Women’s History is as diverse as you are.

Please share, post and tweet this play list with all the phenomenal women in your network. We hope you love it as much as we do.

See you soon!

We did it! We want to say thank you to everyone who supported Women Interactive. When we embarked on this journey, we quickly realized that while many people thought it was a good idea, we were going to have to convince them that it wasn’t just a good idea but a necessary one. We knew that we were in for a journey and we definitely got one. We also knew that without a support system we wouldn’t be able to pull this off.

We thank you for being our support system. To everyone who tweeted, retweeted, facebooked, instagrammed, attended, curated, sponsored, partnered and talked about Women Interactive, we thank you.

Special thanks to Dr. Ayoka Chenzira of Spelman Digital Moving Image Salon and Dr. Beverly Tatum, President of Spelman College for your support of and belief in Women Interactive. Your support was instrumental in making the festival happen.

Special thanks to our fabulous, talented, smart and savvy curators. Nicole Garner of The Garner Circle PR, Lauren Brown Jarvis, Lauren Thomas, Margaret Kargbo, Candace Bazemore and Felicia Pride. Your help and support was invaluable! Thank you for working with us to create such a great festival with brilliant and dynamic speakers, facilitators, exhibitors and films.

And thank you to our sponsors/partners. Your support and participation helped us provide even more value to our attendees.

We appreciate all of you for believing in our “little” festival. This is just the beginning. We are dedicated to continuing this conversation and want to keep hearing your voice as well. So don’t stop talking! Keep tweeting, facebooking, instagramming and conversing about women, technology and creativity.
